How to transfer/archive Google files - Students only
If a student is leaving our school district, whether that be due to graduation or transferring schools, they may choose to take some of their classwork in Google Drive with them. There are three methods to accomplish this task: Use Google Takeout, right-click | download copies of the files you wish to keep, or transfer you files to another account.
Google Takeout
Google Takeout will create a .zip file of all the content you wish to take with you, then you may download the file and extract the contents on either a flash drive or personal computer.
- Go to the Google Takeout website and sign in with your school account.
- You should see a list of items you may transfer to your personal Google account, such as Google Drive files, calendars, emails, etc. Check only the boxes of items you want to take with you.
- Leave the frequency as "export once." You may leave the file type as .zip. For the size, if you have more than 2 GB of files to export, you may want to consider increasing the size. Otherwise, you'll just receive multiple .zip files that you'll have export individually.
- Click "Create Export" when you are ready.
- Once complete, you will see a button to download the .zip file that contains all of your Google content.

Google Transfer
Google also offers a Transfer option as part of their Takeout app. Click here to get started.
