Disinfect / Clean Electronic Devices
How to Safely Disinfect Electronic Devices
Step 1: Completely power down the device.
Step 2: Unplug anything connected to the device.
Step 3: Do not spray anything directly on the device.
Step 4: To clean non-touch chromebook, laptop, or computer screens, apply a solution of half water to half isopropyl alcohol (70%) to a microfiber cloth. Do not use Clorox wipes on non-touch screens.
Step 5: To clean interactive screens (i.e. iPads, touchscreen chromebooks, and touchscreen laptops) apply isopropyl alcohol (70%) to a microfiber cloth or use Clorox disinfecting wipes to wipe all surfaces. Apply more isopropyl alcohol (70%) as needed to the cloth only.
Touchscreen devices have a shiny screen, like glass. These screens can be treated just like keyboards and cases; meaning you can apply full-strength isopropyl alcohol (70%) to the cloth and clean the screens as well as the rest of the device.
If you elect Clorox wipes, please be sure to wring out any extra liquid prior to wiping the device.
On touchscreen devices it is helpful to use another clean microfiber cloth to wipe the screen dry.
Step 6: To clean cases, keyboards, and touchpads using the isopropyl alcohol (70%) solution on a cloth to wipe down all of these surfaces. Clorox wipes are safe too, as long as they are not too wet.
Step 7: After all the areas are cleaned leave the device open and do not power on until it is completely dry.
Do not use any other chemicals or solutions on laptops or chromebooks.
